Day 02 Dambulla - A Journey into the Ancient
On the second day, your journey begins with a visit to the Sigiriya Fortress, also known as Lion Rock. The ruins of King Kassapa I's capital (from 477–495) are found on the top of a 180-meter-high granite peak. This 'Lion's Rock' towers over the surrounding jungle. You can reach the site by following a series of galleries and staircases that emerge from the mouth of a giant lion structure made of bricks and plaster. The summit provides a breathtaking reward for your effort, with views that are simply unforgettable. Next, you will visit the iconic Rangiri Dambulla Temple. This UNESCO World Heritage site has served as a sacred pilgrimage destination for 22 centuries. The cave monastery features five sanctuaries and is the largest and best-preserved cave-temple complex in Sri Lanka. It is renowned for its extensive Buddhist mural paintings, covering an area of 2,100 m², and its collection of 157 statues. In the evening, embark on an exciting safari in the Habarana or Minneriya area. This safari is a fantastic opportunity to observe wild elephants in their natural habitat. Watch these majestic creatures roam freely, providing an unforgettable end to your day and a unique glimpse into Sri Lanka's rich wildlife.
