Next, get ready for an exciting climb up Sigiriya Fortress, also known as Lion Rock. The ruins of King Kassapa I's capital (from 477–495) are found on the top of a 180-meter-high granite peak. This 'Lion's Rock' towers over the surrounding jungle. You can reach the site by following a series of galleries and staircases that emerge from the mouth of a giant lion structure made of bricks and plaster.
